How I Treat My Adult Acne
I have struggled with acne since I was a teenager. Of course, when I was a teenager I thought my acne was bad but it really wasn’t. Bad was still to come.
When it it got really bad was in my early twenties. It was mortifying and a terrible time of my life, honestly. I never left the house without makeup and avoided things like swimming or the beach. I eventually went on Accutane and that cleared everything up for a few years.
But by late twenties I started getting acne again, although not quite as bad. Still, the older you get I think the more embarrassing acne becomes. And again, it controlled my life in many ways as there were days I hated to leave the house. I am now many years older and still have bouts of acne, really?
After one bad spell just a few months ago, I came across some advice online that has helped me a lot. My skin has been much clearer for the past few months and I think my simple plan is actually working.
Here is what I do now:
1. I drink Rooibos tea daily.
I started with this tea but sometimes I just get other brands of Rooibus, sometimes called Red Bush. I found this idea on a forum somewhere and many people were having success reducing or eliminating their adult acne just by drinking the tea. The worst the acne, the more cups per day you are suppose to drink.
2. Wash with Dove Sensitive soap bar.
I always washed with a light liquid soap, but I saw a few people online swearing by Dove Sensitive so I tried it. It seems to be working and is even cheaper than what I was using (bonus).
3. Use a Toner
Along with the Dove recommendation was to follow up with a toner. I think Clinique was recommended but cheaper alternatives were said to be okay. I actually use this toner from Olay hoping to also minimize my oiliness. I like how clean my skin feels after using it and was surprised by the amount of dirt and/or makeup left after washing my face.
That’s it, really. Surprisingly simple but it seems to be working for me. I do use a few other products, but they weren’t products that I found recommended by others. A moisturizer is usually recommended in these types of regimens but I don’t have a particular one to recommend. I also use a scrub every other day or so.
If you have moderate to fairly severe adult acne then this advice may not be enough, but it’s certainly worth a try. You may have to add in an acne treater from a dermatologist but this plan is still a good base. And give the tea a try, I’ve heard many great success stories.
I know how difficult adult acne is so I hope this helps someone.
