Any mother will tell you that strange things happen to your body during pregnancy. With boatloads of hormones buzzing around your body it´s really no surprise. Cravings, morning sickness, forgetfulness, over-sensitivity to light and people, straight hair going curly, curly hair going straight and often acne during pregnancy are all things that can affect a woman.
Acne during pregnancy can become a problem due to the high levels of hormones in your system. Women who have never suffered from acne in their life may even find themselves affected by it. You should also check the concentration of vitamin A in other moisturisers. The prescription medications Accutane and Tetracycline are also definite no-nos. Some studies have shown that they may increase the risk of birth defects and miscarriage.
One of the best treatments for acne during pregnancy is a balanced diet with an intake of plenty of nutrient rich vitamins and minerals. Don´t let your cravings for chocolate donuts distract you from the fact that as a pregnant mom you need to provide enough vitamins for the baby and you. And remember to take your prenatal vitamin supplement daily not only for your skin but for the health of your child
Drinking plenty of water will help flush out your system and should also help with the appearance of your skin. Benzoyl Peroxide may be safe to use on the skin during pregnancy, but get the green light from your doctor first before using. Tea tree oil is a natural alternative to benzoyl peroxide and may be preferred.
It is important that you enjoy the miracle of pregnancy and having glowing skin is a part of that. No one wants to feel like a spotty whale. There are treatments available to treat acne during pregnancy. Just be sure to always check with your doctor before using anything.
